About

Hello! I'm Cairo (pronounced chai-row, or 菜肉), a 7 year and 4 months eclectus parrot living in Singapore. I have adopted a pair of human beings - whom I nicknamed Seth & Cleavan - and I'm working on training them, so any advice on training humans is most welcome!

A truly hatched and bred Singaporean, I currently live in Joo Chiat and enjoy chilling out in the East with my parronts (portmanteau of parrot and parent). Say 'hi' if you see me and feel free to tag me - @cairothedino - in your paparazzi photos.

I'm a parrot, so I fly and talk a lot. Mostly not-so-chim words, like 'hello', 'uh-oh', 'peek-a-boo', and some important phrases, like 'I love you' - that always gets me treats ;) I also love blowing kisses and saying the wrong thing at the wrong time! My human has repeatedly warned me not to try to eat the Raspberry Pi - but why else would they name something after two of my favourite foods?

I hope to put up my instagram feed soon, but my humans are so busy all the time, especially the developer. So I'm crossing my talons that it will happen soon.

In the beginning...

I was hatched into a multi-subspecies family. My bio mom was a petite little lady (probably some Solomon Island) and my bio dad was a big fella (he claimed to be Red-Sided, but probably had some Aruensis in him). I've a couple of older brothers, but they already flew the coop by the time I hatched.

I moved out of my bio parents' place and in with a cool guy, a real bro. He fed me nectar of the gods (he called it formula), but best of all, he taught me how to fly outside and find him again! Apparently it takes a lot of training (something about recall and free flight), but it was fun :D

Flying was so much fun that I decided to take a few solo joyflights by myself. Once I took a week to sample mangos and papayas five kilometers away, and I found myself at a balcony where some humans were chillin'. I'm a polite parrot myself, so I greeted them with my best 'hello'. Well, next thing I know, these humans posted on the Book of Faces to find my homie!

Now, get this, my homie found them through the Book of Faces. And he tried to prove to these humans that he's legit by telling them I 'can only say hello'. *facetalon* sooo embarrassing.... Anyway, we proved our bromance when I used our secret call sign (I called it 'the song for the nectar of the gods', he called it 'baby crying for formula').

A few months after that, my dude (who was also kinda my landlord) broke the news that he was building his nest with his hen and new hatchling. I said it was no prob - I'll just move in with those humans I had scouted out while on their balcony. And I've been with those humans, Seth & Cleavan ever since.
